Today would have been my Grandma Gin Gin's
birthday. Just remembering her with a smile, as
she was always happy and laughing, even if her
hip hurt !!
Always stylish ! At my parents wedding
she wore this amazing dress, beige with copper
threading detail and a copper belt holding a bustle
of netting at the back...and her bejeweled
"Cat Eyed" glasses.
Holding me at a wedding, were I was the
flower girl with a pixie hair cut ! I just
loved those turquoise plastic bead necklaces
she wore, and the feather hat.
The year...1992 ! At our wedding.
When I walked down the isle, passing the
front row where Ginge was sitting, she said
out loud "Yahoo, he finally married her!"
Me, posing with Herbie the Lovebug !!!
Ginge's car, which I loved so much. She
would take my sister and I to Bob's Big Boy
drive-in for dinner.
The words I wrote and read in April 2002.
A simple word that describes Ginge is Fun.
She was funny, uplifting and just nice to be around.
She was easy going, had a positive outlook, and
always saw the bright side of everything. She was
strong in body and spirit, all qualities to be imitated.
Ginge never complained... and if she did have a problem,
she made light of it always laughing. She could rise to
any occasion, and was always there if you needed her, to
listen or help.
She provided the best snacks and junk food. She always
had the latest new cookie..."Oooo have you tried these..
they're soooo good !"
A buffet of cookies and candy were lined up along her kitchen
counter.
She called us " Lovie" and "Doll", squeezed the stuffing out
of us with her hugs, she kissed our cheeks hard.
She was a mother, a grandmother, a playmate, a friend.
We will miss her so !
Her back door was always open, coffee waiting, and a good
conversation to be had. She had many friends, unique friends, all who adored her.
Her love for her family and friends was unconditional, genuine
and without expectation.
A true giver, as we all should be !!! Putting others before ourselves.
Ginge collected "Suns". Ceramics, paintings, glass suns hung on
the walls of her home. She wore orange and yellow and shirts with
"Sun" faces on them.
In writing this about my grandma I realized... That Ginge was
the Sun. Warm and bright and cheerful, full of life. Her arms
like rays embracing you. When you are in the warmth of the sun,
Think of Ginge...
and laugh, then smile and hug someone really tight, that's what
she would want.
Have a Blessed Day,
Amy
I just loved your Grandma Ginge! I'll never forget driving with her up to Mammoth in her Herbie Lovebug-- just the two of us. She was the best. When I think if her-- I think of her laughter and always her smile. She was always such great fun. Feel very blessed that I knew her :)
